We are a military family that has moved at the request/direction of the Coast Guard 14 times. In 2007 we purchased our home in St. Marys, GA at the height of the market. Six months later we were significantly underwater on our home. Time moves on regardless, so we rented our home with disastrous results. Fast forward, I retire (sort of) and the wife has a portable job keeping the the lights on. I eventually found a home with a Government Contracting Team and quickly (not expected) moved to the lead position as Program Manager. Then mother comes to live with us, dementia and eventually in elder care then COVID. Still in GA, where we have no connections with anyone, and its hot and humid! We always talked about moving back to Maine but that trigger had a tight pull. Unfortunatly, my Mom passed and there was nothing stopping us from making the move other than willpower. Willpower, was difficult. We knew the direction we wanted to go, but.... My son came to visit and we took him to a local (now think small town) proprietor that we frequented to have conversation with because we shared a similar background. My son has his eye on a particular piece of art but no action was taken on it. Go back into the store and its gone. When asked about the piece, the proprietor stated that the owner had other things going on and had closed her section of the store. We stated that there was interest in the piece of art and would pay her price. Hemming and hawing, the owner of the piece didn't feel it was worthy of sale and we said we wanted to buy it! Piece was purchased and gifted. A few months later.... We were back in the store having conversations with the proprietor when she said "oh my these are the folks that bought your art". The conversation ensued with her and her family being from New England and connections that we shared. During this conversation it was reviled, that her nephew was a realtor in Maine and she "would share our information" with him. Not really thinking much about it we went on with life. About two months later, I was cold called by a number in Maine. I typically do not answer, but I did, it was Gabe. Now, I have not shared this, but my wife is a Realtor also. Gabe explained his philosophy of Real-estate and the wife was hooked! I know, long read, and I apologize. Absolute bottom line, Gabe and his team are awesome and we now own a home in Maine! Currently packing as tropical storm pushes through!!!!!!!
